A repeat season of the much loved series Sweet Magnolias was announced on July 23, 2020 after the success of the first season was gauged by the show runners just two months into the running.

The drama series revolves around three friends who have been together since childhood in a small town in South Carolina. They are with one another through all the trials and tribulations life throws at them and “shepherd each other through the complexities of romance, career and family,” as they put it so appropriately.

All three central characters of Maddie Townsend, Dana Sue Sullivan and Helen Decatur will be played by the old cast, JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, Heather Headley respectively. Chris Klein will also pick up where he left off in the last season as he will resume playing the part of Maddie's ex-husband, Bill Townsend. Justin Bruening and Spears will make their appearances again in Season 2 and this time in a meatier role than in season 1.

Sweet Magnolias is set in a quaint fictional town called Serenity somewhere in not-so-happening South Carolina. The actual shoot was done primarily in Covington, a small city in Georgia.

Some of the places in Covington, that were covered majorly during the filming were the scenic Southview Cemetery, The Alley at Mystic Grill gift shop, Covington's Newton County Board of Commissioners, the town square with its 1906 Confederate Monument and a World War I obelisk and the Oakhurst Presbyterian Church in Decatur.
