Zachary Levi confirms that Shazam won't be Recast in DC Studios RestructuringZachary Levi is best known as Billy Batson's super-hero alter ego Shazam and has now confirmed that his role will not recast within the DC Universe.
Zachary Levi is set to reprise his role as the boy-turned-superhero Shazam in the upcoming film Shazam! Fury of the Gods.Amidst continued restructuring at DC Studios, though, some rumors emerged that it would be Levi's last time suiting up as the character, but he has now quashed that gossip.
Levi shared the news with two Twitter fans through an exchange. In the original tweet, Levi stated that he wasn't going to be Shazam any more and added insult to injury by saying that he was close friends with James Gunn. This refers to Zachary Levi who is also the co-chair of DC Studios and the co-CEO. A second tweet stated, "I don't want this to be true. His Shazam [t]he only thing in DCEU that I would absolutly throw my hands for to defend," and Levi was described as "perfect."
Many fans expressed similar enthusiasm on Twitter for Levi's performance as the character. Levi addressed these concerns in a tweet. He said, "Oooh! I wouldn't believe everything you read on the internet." I'm Gucci, Ash. "We all Gucci," adding the sunglasses emoji.
It is not surprising that rumors have swirled around a potential re-casting of Levi as Shazam, given that rumors have emerged about pretty much every DC Studios property since Gunn and Peter Safran took over the film house in October. Gunn and Safran are said to have changed their strategy, which will try to move the studio from its chaotic past in a positive direction. The reports include the scrapping large projects like Wonder Woman3 and the confirmation from Gunn that Henry Cavill would not reprise his role of Superman for a younger version. It was reasonable to believe that Shazam could also be affected by all the changes at DC. This is despite the fact the DC Studio's original film, released in 2019, received mostly positive reviews, which is a rare occurrence among DC Studio films.
There is nothing to be concerned about Levi who will, according to his words, continue to hold Shazam's title for the near future. Although a third movie in the franchise is not yet announced, it's likely that one will be made if Fury of the Gods has decent box-office numbers. Beyond Levi, is directed by David F. Sandberg. features Jack Dylan Grazer and Ian Chen. Faith Herman,, DjimonHounsou in returning roles. The film will also feature significant parts for Helen Mirren and Rachel Zegler. Safran himself produced Fury of the Gods through DC Studios and New Line Cinema from a script by Chris Morgan and Henry Gayden.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods will be released by Warner Bros. on March 17, 2023. Below is Levi's tweet:
